The Evolution of Technology – An In-House Brand Film

Overview: We wanted a film that showed what we believe about progress. So we built one in-house, three hundred years of technology compressed into three minutes, from 1700 to 2030.

Overview: This one was ours. We wanted a film that said what we believe about technology without naming a single product or service. The idea was simple and a little ambitious. Take three hundred years of human progress, from 1700 to 2030, and tell it in three minutes.

The Idea: Most brand films talk about the company. We wanted to talk about the thing the company cares about. Progress moves in waves. Steam, electricity, computing, the network, and whatever comes next. We decided to ride that timeline from the early machines all the way to a near future, and let the momentum say everything about how we think.

Our Approach: A three minute jump across three centuries only works if the rhythm is right. We storyboarded the whole film as a single accelerating curve. The early eras breathe a little. As the timeline approaches the present, the cuts get faster and the ideas stack closer together, so the viewer feels the speed of change rather than just reading about it.

We built the film in motion design so we could move freely across periods that no camera could capture. Each era got its own visual signature, its own palette, and its own type treatment, while a shared design system held the whole thing together so it never felt like ten different films stitched into one.

Behind the Scenes: The hardest part was deciding what to leave out. Our first edit ran past five minutes because we could not bear to cut any invention. It was thorough and it was boring. We printed the timeline, stuck it on the wall, and crossed out everything that did not change the story. Half the inventions went. The film got better with every cut. The version that survived only keeps the moments that actually bent the curve.

Sound nearly stole the show. We scored the film to build like the visuals, slow and mechanical at the start, electric and tight by the end. Late one night we added a low pulse under the modern section that we almost removed for being too subtle. In the final mix it is the thing that makes the last thirty seconds feel like the future is arriving. We left it in.

The Craft: We graded each era to feel like its time, warm and worn at the start, cool and clean by the end. The transitions carry the eye across centuries without a single hard stop, so the whole film reads as one continuous push forward.

Outcome: We made a film that explains how we see the world in three minutes, with no sales pitch attached. We use it as an introduction to who we are and what we value. It is the kind of work we build for clients, made for ourselves, and it still earns a second watch.

What We Delivered: We produced a complete three minute brand film, an original score that builds across the timeline, a layered sound design pass, and a reusable design system spanning every era in the piece. Because it was built in motion design, the same assets can be recut into shorter teasers whenever we need a quick introduction to the studio.
